T&E Spend Benchmarks: How Does Your Program Compare?
Most finance teams track their own T&E numbers—but without peer context, that data tells only part of the story. This report draws on real spend data from approximately 26,000 SAP Concur customers worldwide, covering eight quarters from Q3 2024 through Q2 2026. It's segmented by program size so you can see exactly where your organization stands.
Five Categories That Show Where Your Program Stands
Spend Volume
Spend grew faster than transaction volume across every program tier, pushing per-transaction costs higher. If your costs are climbing faster than activity, vendor pricing and policy limits are worth investigating.
Payment Mix
Card adoption exceeds 80% across all program sizes—but in smaller programs, cash can represent nearly two-thirds of expense spend. Cash carries higher compliance and visibility risk than card-based spending.
Mileage
Mileage is self-reported and difficult to audit without GPS verification. Among programs under $1M, 59.1% of mileage transactions lack recorded locations—and unverified mileage dollars are outpacing verified ones in several tiers.
Meals
For programs under $10M, the meal mis-categorization rate exceeds 39% and is trending upward. Miscoded meal spend is growing nearly twice as fast as properly coded spend—a drift that compounds over time without intervention.
Company Bill Statements (CBS)
CBS consolidates centrally billed hotel, airline, and rental charges. CBS growth has been strong across all tiers, but that volume requires audit controls to keep pace.
SAP Concur addresses each of these risk areas with AI trained on the most extensive T&E dataset in the world—automatically flagging fraud and compliance issues at submission—and GPS-based mileage capture that documents every trip without manual input.
