After months of designing, planning and testing work, today we are excited to unveil a number of new enhancements to our travel booking tool, Concur Cliqbook Travel, and our flagship product, Concur Travel & Expense. We’ve made some big changes to the look, feel and performance of Concur Cliqbook Travel, and hope that travelers will enjoy using it as much as we do. The new user interface is easy to navigate, customize and in our opinion is downright good looking.
I’m one of the original architects and principal software engineers behind Concur’s market-leading travel technology. Back in the late 90’s, while at Outtask, I helped develop the original travel booking tool that eventually became Concur Cliqbook Travel. In 2005, we rewrote the user interface, and in 2006, after Concur acquired Outtask, I was thrilled to stay on and help integrate it into Concur Travel & Expense.
I’ve been involved in several iterations of this travel booking tool and am thrilled with the updates we’ve made to it; we hope you will be too. In approaching the redesign and update process, I, along with a team of engineers, designers and a small army of software testers, set out to create what we feel is the best corporate travel booking tool available today.
While many of the design ideas came from our internal team, we received more than 50 ideas from current customers, many of which were incorporated in the update. For example, we now display flight results by both price and schedule on the same screen and added the ability to shop for multiple hotels at a time (which is really useful for traveling sales people). Also current users asked that we add the ability to send direct messages to a car or hotel vendor during the booking process and add in a feature which enables travelers to add multiple frequent flyer programs when reserving a multi-carrier airfare.
Here are some of the other features that I personally am excited about. For full details, jump over to the official announcement here and read about all of the changes. For those of you planning on attending NBTA next week, we’ll showcase the enhanced tool at our booth, #1649, and would love to give you a sneak peek. If you like what you see, feel free to send us a Tweet about it at @SAPConcur.
New Design and UI: We’ve given the user interface a facelift, simplifying flight results and enabling users to easily customize results. For example when you select a specific outbound flight, we have a new “More like this” option that can show all of the return flights which match that outbound flight. We also added sliders for time of day and price, to help users navigate the results. The goal was to still provide a broad range of options but without all of the clutter. It’s now much easier to see results. An example:

We’ve also added in the ability to search for hotels by neighborhood. So, for example, if you want to book a hotel in New York City and only want to see results for hotels in the SoHo, you can easily filter these results. Users can search more than 76,000 individual neighborhoods in 193 countries.
For social media butterflies, integration with Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter: Travelers can now share specific trip info on top social networking sites when they book their trip. This is great if you want to connect with friends, colleagues and family. Because of this we’ve made it fully customizable. If you like, you can easily choose to have Concur Cliqbook Travel send your followers and social media contacts a note about your trip the day prior to travel.
Increased flexibility for travel managers and TMC’s: While many of the updates are geared towards road warriors, we wanted to deliver enhancements that make the lives of travel managers easier. We now support Sabre’s ticket change option, QREX Plus, giving Travel Management Companies (TMCs) and travel managers greater flexibility when travel plans change. We’ve also included integration with Amadeus’ Master Pricer Travelboard to provide multiple fares for each flight.
We think you will like the new Concur Cliqbook Travel look, feel and functionality as much as we do. Our goal is to create software that makes the act of business travel easy, accessible and as pain free as possible. As always, let us know what you think by leaving a comment below or on Twitter, @SAPConcur.
