Concur employees have been busy with their usual work as well as spending their days volunteering as part of SAP’s Month of Service commitment. SAP’s signature corporate volunteer initiative, Month of Service, is an accumulation of employee volunteering to inspire team building, volunteer leadership and positive social change in our communities. Month of Service fits perfectly with Concur’s longstanding commitment to our communities through community engagement, volunteerism and charity partnerships.
Concur employees have been volunteering daily around the globe in celebration of such a commitment of service. From food banks to schools and animal shelters to donation drives and orphanages, Concur employees have been thrilled to use their quarterly eight hours of Concur Cares Daysfor causes of their own passions and interests. These designated days are paid volunteer days offered to Concur employees to use with the non-profit of their choice. From volunteering with their family and coworkers, Concur employees have been out and about, taking advantage of giving back big the last few months.
To celebrate Concur and SAP joining forces with this commitment, Concur held a kick-off event in the form of a volunteer day with Stop Hunger Now for SAP and Concur employees at Concur’s headquarters on October 27th with the goal of packing 20,000 meals for communities in need. Stop Hunger Now is an organization whose mission is to ”end world hunger in our lifetime by providing food and life changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable” through this global commitment.
Concur President, Elena Donio, and Concur CMO, Jerame Thurik, began the event by speaking about how they have seen the Concur philanthropic culture soar and how our involvement in SAP’s Month of Service aligns with our company efforts, since our commitment to local communities and those in need has been rooted in our values from the start.
100 employees in assembly lines packed meal packs which consisted of rice, soy, vegetables, spices and vitamins. Every participant had a vital role in succeeding in reaching our goal of 20,000 meals in two hours. There were a variety of roles, such as labelers, sealers, runners, packers and fillers—all working hard in their hair nets. Every 1,000 meals packed was celebrated with a loud gong and Stop Hunger Now came with a special music playlist that had everyone dancing all the way to the goal of 20,000 meals. The spirit in the room was one of collaboration, camaraderie and determination in reaching the day’s goal, with many participants asking when the next event will be.
Besides the fun that Concur and SAP employees were having during the event, the drive to continue and succeed was knowing that recipients of the 20,000 meals packed are school-age girls in Afghanistan who experience hunger on a regular basis. Stop Hunger Now works through Trust in Education, a grassroots organization providing educational, economic and health care assistance to villages in Afghanistan.
