Can Expense Reporting Be Fun? Maybe Just a Little for Salesforce

With 75 percent of 6,000 employees traveling to different parts of the world, how in the world does Salesforce.com keep track of their travel and entertainment expenses? Well, Ralph Colunga, Senior Director of Global, Travel, Meetings, and Expense from Salesforce has a one-word answer: Concur.

Since its start in 1999, Salesforce has been growing at the speed of light. For the innovative, cloud-based CRM software company, expense reporting can be chaotic. “With a global expense program that is growing at a current run rate of 36 percent year-over-year—and with an estimated forecast of 80K expense reports this FY12—Concur not only has to be intuitive, but it needs to be as ‘fun’ as travel and expense reporting can be,” says Colunga.

To help employees optimize their productivity, Colunga believes the key is efficiency and transparency. “In other words,” he says, “the ‘3-Ts’: track, trend, and trim.” Getting employees on board with Concur was a matter of following the adage, “If you build it, they will come.” The Salesforce team built a strong platform for T&E spend, which allows the company to keep up with growth and demand. And while some believe that working harder is the key to success, Colunga attributes success to speed. For him, success is found by, “Work faster, not harder… faster!” Something that Concur helps him achieve.

With Concur, travel and expense management is a seamless process for Salesforce. “The implementation of Concur’s travel solution was the smoothest I’ve encountered in my nearly 30 years in T&E and meetings management,” says Colunga. A Salesforce employee told Colunga recently, “Your team has made travel and expense a relatively painless event for the rest of us.”

For Salesforce, Colunga says, “Concur is about as good as it gets in our T&E world.”
