I was at a business dinner in Hong Kong, trying to appear confident and worldly in front of my boss and our clients. I had no idea what I ordered, and when the dishes arrived, I was horrified to see that a live fish was swimming in my bowl of soup. Was I supposed to eat him? I felt so bad for the little guy. I scooped him out and ran to the fountain in the restaurant and I threw him in, thinking, “Swim for your life! Be free!” I have no idea if he survived or not, but I had to try.

Urgh... I wouldn't have eaten any of it, myself.
Just think: If a live fish is swimming around, it's also probably leaving it's excrements in your soup. *shiver*
Be free in a restaurant fountain?? It probably got sucked in in the water purifier and suffered a horrible death. It would have been more humane to eat it.
Rule #1 if you are not sure ASK!
Rule #2 Ff you were really trying to appear worldly in front of your clients, you should not have let him go, instead you should just have had a little soup. It's called Saving Face... Kind of a big thing in any Asian country.
no more rules!
I ordered tripe tacos one time at a mexican business lunch, not knowing. They were good.
